7 continents of the world

 

There are seven continents of the world. The names of the seven continents of the world are: Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

 

1. Africa

Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent.  It includes 54 countries. Africa covers an area of about 11.7 million square miles.  Africa covers an area of 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land area. Africa is the hottest continent and home of the world's largest desert, the Sahara, occupying the 25% of the total area of Africa. Africa is bounded on the north by the Mediterranean Sea, on the south by the mingling waters of the Atlantic and Indian oceans, on the east by the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean and on the west by the Atlantic Ocean.

 

2. Antarctica

Antarctica contains the geographic South Pole and is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, It is world's southernmost continent and it is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. Antarctica covers an area of about 5,500,000 square miles. Antarctica is the fifth-largest continent. There are no permanent inhabitants in Antarctica.

 

3. Asia

Asia is world’s largest and most populous continent. It includes 50 countries. Asia covers an area of 44,579,000 square kilometers, about 30% of earth's total area and 8.7% of the earth's total surface area. Asia is bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Europe to the west, Arctic Ocean to the north, the Indian Ocean to the south and the Red Sea to the southwest.

 

4. Australia and Oceania

Oceania comprises Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand and the many Pacific islands like Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia etc. Oceania has a land area of 8,525,989 square kilometers. It includes 14 countries.

 

5. Europe

Europe comprises the westernmost part of Eurasia and is bordered by Asia to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Arctic Ocean to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Europe covers about 10,180,000 square kilometers about 2% of the Earth's surface that is 6.8% of land area. It includes 50 countries.

 

6. North America

North America is the third largest of the world’s continents. It is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, to the north by the Arctic Ocean, and to the southeast by the Caribbean Sea and South America. North America covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers. It includes 23 countries.

 

 7. South America

South America is the fourth largest of the world’s continents. It is bordered on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America, on the west by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers. It includes 12 countries.
